ALABAMA ACADEMY OF SCIENCE PREPARATION OF POSTERS
ALABAMA ACADEMY OF SCIENCE
PREPARATION OF POSTERS
INFORMATION
The Program for the Annual Meeting of the Academy will have instructions regarding the time and location for setting up posters, the time for the author(s) to be present for explanation and discussion of the research, and the time for removal of the posters. Failure of the author(s) to conform to the published schedule is a discourtesy to members who want to see and study the
posters. An abstract will be published in the Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science provided that the abstract conforms to editorial format requirements. A member of the Local Arrangements Committee will assign a location for each poster and will provide assistance as needed.
SUGGESTIONS FOR PREPARATION OF POSTER
The standard poster board is 32 inches high and 40 inches wide. Arrange charts, tables, and other materials on the board for clarity of presentation. Illustrations should be prepared so that they can be read from a distance of about 3 feet. Hand-lettered material should have appropriately heavy lettering at least 1/2 inch high; if possible, typed material should be prepared on a "bulletin" (large type) typewriter. The illustrations should be easy to understand, but they need not be "arty". Simple use of color can add effective emphasis. Do not place illustrations on heavy material that could be difficult to keep in position on the poster board. You might find that a tablet of sketch paper and a felt marking pen would be useful items to have on hand when talking with viewers.
* Position a typed copy of the abstract in the upper left-hand corner.
* In the upper right-hand corner, indicate the Section of the Academy, poster number, and name(s) of the author(s).
* Fix the abstract, text (i.e., title, introduction, procedure, results, conclusion), tables, figures, etc., to the poster board with thumbtacks.
