INITIAL CALL FOR PAPER AND POSTER TITLES
103rd ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ALABAMA ACADEMY OF SCIENCE, INC.
Joint with the Alabama Junior Academy of Science and the Gorgas Scholarship Program
Faulkner University, Montgomery, Alabama — February 27-28, 2026
Abstract submission is open and closes January 15, 2026.
Papers and posters are invited for each of the following Sections of the Academy. At least one author must be a member of the Academy. Membership information and application are available at https://www.alabamaacademyofscience.org/join-aas-2/.
The Title and Abstract Submission site for oral paper and poster presentations will be available after October 15, 2025 on the Academy website and is directly accessible here:

All titles and abstracts must be submitted online by January 15, 2026. All presenters must also register for the meeting. Please see the Registration Form at:

The online program will serve as the official program for the annual meeting and will be available on the Academy website approximately two weeks prior to the meeting. Directions concerning poster size requirements will be posted on the website.

SUBMISSION & MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
- Membership: At least one author of each paper/poster must be a member of the Alabama Academy of Science. Join or renew at https://www.alabamaacademyofscience.org/join-aas-2/.
- Submission: All titles/abstracts must be submitted online by January 15, 2026 via https://event.fourwaves.com/aas2025/submission.
- Registration: All presenters must register via https://event.fourwaves.com/aas2025/registration. Group registrations are available for large groups from the same institution.
- Student Competition: Student members’ papers and/or posters are automatically entered in the Student Paper and Poster Competition (see website for requirements). Winners will be announced at the banquet and receive cash awards. Competition winners are encouraged to submit a full paper for publication in the Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science (JAAS).
- Program Accuracy: Follow the online instructions for listing the title, presenter’s name, coauthors, and official institutional affiliations; this ensures accurate listing in the online program.

STUDENT GRANTS AND AWARDS
All Travel and Research Grant applications must be submitted online at http://alabamaacademyofscience.org and must meet all posted eligibility requirements. Hard-copy submissions are not accepted. You will receive an email confirmation for all applications. If you do not receive confirmation within one week, please contact the Chair as soon as possible. All posted deadlines will be strictly enforced.
TRAVEL GRANTS
Limited nominal travel grants will be available to student members who otherwise would not be able to attend the Annual Meeting of the Academy. Grant amounts are determined by distance of travel to the meeting and do not cover lodging. Priority will be given to applications submitted by students who will present a paper and/or poster at the Annual Meeting.

Checks for awarded travel grants will be available for pick-up at the meeting registration desk.
RESEARCH GRANTS
Research grants, in amounts usually not exceeding $250, are available for student members’ projects that meet eligibility requirements.

PAPER AND POSTER COMPETITION AWARDS
All student member paper and poster submissions are automatically entered in the Paper and Poster Competition. The author(s) of the winning papers or posters will be announced and award checks presented at the AAS Annual Banquet. All competition winners are encouraged to publish their papers in the Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science.
